Metal Template: Sturgeon
-
Size44 х 52 х 150 cm
-
Sheet size125 х 123 cm
Files included:
- DXF files for cut and engraving;
- PDF file showing the bend angles;
- PDF file showing the placement of parts on the model.
Features:
- metal sheet 1.5 mm thick;
- drawing on the front side of the assembled model;
- total length of cutting line: 43 m.;
- the cutting contours of the parts contain holes in the corners to relieve stress and contain notches to define fold lines without engraving;
- fold lines for engraving are marked in different colors according to the bending direction: UP – yellow, DOWN – red;
- two parameters for each bend: bend angle (a) and included angle (b).
What to do
- Cut the parts from the sheet metal and mark the bend lines and part numbers
- Bend the parts
- Assemble the model
- Grind welds
- Design the surface as desired
This drawing is not just a flat pattern of the parts, but complete design documentation for fabricating the sculpture yourself. It includes DXF nesting files and PDF drawings for bending and welding. When designing polygonal models, we follow basic requirements of anatomy and composition and assess the feasibility of assembling the figure from sheet metal. The parts are developed taking into account the sheet thickness (1.5 mm), material stretch during bending, and the limitations of a CNC press brake. Most weld seams are placed on the outside of the joints, reducing the number of internal and flat welds to keep the model as clean as possible.
We recommend using laser cutting and a press brake (manual or CNC). The parts can also be cut and bent by hand, though this takes considerably more time. The drawings are suitable for any working style. The choice of sheet metal depends on the final concept, the installation conditions of the sculpture, and the budget: carbon steel, stainless steel grades AISI 430, AISI 304, AISI 316, Corten, or aluminium.

We provide several DXF file options to choose from:
-
DXF files with the signature "...-NestingLabel-..." contain cutting and engraving lines. We made notches and cutouts in the contours of the parts. Notches are used to determine the location of fold lines. Cutouts are used to relieve stress in the corners of the bends. Elements for engraving — fold lines and part numbers. DOWN fold lines are marked in red; UP fold lines are marked in yellow.
-
"DXF-Separate". A folder with files where the parts are not arranged on a sheet, and each part is saved as a separate DXF file.
Polygonal metal sculpture of a sturgeon — a decorative art object for the design of public spaces. The metal fish figure can serve as a standalone decoration for the entrance group of a restaurant or hotel, as well as for an oceanarium, fish farm, or fishing goods store. A small architectural form — a stylish solution for the landscaping of a water body in a park and for landscape design.
